Cengage Learning and the National Resource Center for First-Year Experience and Students in Transition honored Dr. Brigitte Lahme, Mathematics and Statitics Department Chair and Professor, for her student advocacy work, specifically in student learning, development and success.

As noted by Susan Minichiello in the Press Democrat, Professor Lahme believes mathematics is empowering for students and improves lives. She has a particular passion for helping first-year students and credits the Math and Stats Department for its support.

Funded by a NSF STEM Talent Expansion grant, Professor Lahme transformed first-year mathematics curriculum at SSU. She was nominated for the award by Provost Lisa Vollendorf.
